SWEET PUBLICATIONS TO PUBLISH DONNA STEINER’S ESSAY COLLECTION

Elements will be Steiner’s first book of nonfiction.

TAMPA, Florida (August 5, 2012) – SWEET PUBLICATIONS, the publishing arm of SWEET: A LITERARY CONFECTION, is pleased to announce it will be publishing Donna Steiner’s first chapbook of essays, Elements, in Fall 2012.

“Donna is a poignant essayist,” says Ira Sukrungruang, professor of Creative Nonfiction at the University of South Florida and founding coeditor of SWEET PUBLICATIONS. “Honest. Heartbreaking. Redemptive. Elements is everything a reader wants a collection of essays to be, and we are thrilled to be publishing it.”

Elements will have a limited print run. Approximately 150 arts books will be produced--each one bound, glued, typeset and stitched by hand. These books will be available in late Fall, 2012, on www.sweetpublications.com. In Spring, the Elements ebook will be available on multiple formats.

Steiner is an assistant professor at the State University of New York in Oswego specializing in creative nonfiction. Her writing has been published in The Bellingham Review, Utne, and Fourth Genre. Her work can also be found in the anthologies Women on the Verge, Under the Influence, and What’s Your Exit: A Literary Detour through New Jersey.

Elements will be the third handmade chapbook published by SWEET PUBLICATIONS since its inception in 2011. “SWEET PUBLICATIONS was the next step for Katie Riegel and me,” says Sukrungruang. “We started SWEET: A LITERARY CONFECTION in order to showcase established and emerging writers. This is not more fully realized than when we can bring a writer’s first collection to print. It is our honor and our passion.”

Since 2007, SWEET: A LITERARY CONFECTION has published the best in poetry and nonfiction. Issues are published three times a year online at http://sweetlit.com/. In 2011, founding editors Ira Sukrungruang and Katie Riegel started SWEET PUBLICATIONS, dedicated to publishing limited edition handmade poetry and creative nonfiction chapbooks by emerging writers. Making Sweet Chapbooks

February 6, 2012

In the last month, the Sweet Design Team has been hard at work putting together our first two chapbooks. Our talented designers and book craftspeople have drawn, printed, glued, drilled and sewed--just about anything you can do to make a book! We're proud of the finished product, but even prouder of the authors who wrote them. Wordsmiths Megan Gannon and Amy Monticello will enchant you, and we're thrilled to be part of their early literary careers, which are sure to be brilliant and successful.

Very, very soon we will have enough books finished so you can order them here. And if you're planning to be at the AWP Conference in Chicago, please come by the Sweet/University of South Florida table, space B8. Both chapbooks will be available for sale there for $10 each.

In a few months, we'll have the e-book versions of both of these amazing books available.

Press Release

August 14, 2011

In celebration of our fourth year of publication, Sweet: A Literary Confection, is expanding its ventures by publishing chapbooks by emerging writers in the upcoming year. This is a big step, an exciting one, which will not only continue our devotion to exemplary poetry and creative nonfiction, but also expand Sweet into a literary press.

Sweet Publications will be publishing two chapbooks: one in poetry and one in creative nonfiction. These books will be handmade and produced in house. They will also be available in ebook format. Publication is scheduled for February 2012.

This year's authors are former Sweet contributors Megan Gannon and Amy Monticello.

Megan Gannon

A Witch's Index: Spells/Incantations/Poems by Megan Gannon

The Witch's Index is a love letter, a lifeline to women past and present. Against caustic self-criticisms and bitter disappointments, against our most inhibiting instincts and darkest demons, there is a spell.

Amy Monticello

Close Quarters by Amy Monticello

Close Quarters reaffirms that love doesn't always end when a marriage does. In the dim, acrid haze of smoke and booze, this broken family repair their seams, indulge or overindulge their collective penchant for nostalgia, and examine the hurt even love can't prevent.
